G’day friends!
I have just a short update this week. I’ve been a little under the weather with a nasty summer cold, so my Everest-prepping and life in general has been on hold.

Last Thursday I woke up feeling great. I was super ambitious for the day and even attended my favorite group fitness class of all time – BODYPUMP! And by the end of the day, I was a sneezy, yucky mess. I spent the weekend watching the Ken Burns Vietnam documentary on Netflix and basically just slept a lot.
Isn’t it funny how (on most days) you crave the opportunity to relax at home, watch tv, and nap whenever you’d like – and then when your sick and you HAVE to slow down to heal, its such an inconvenience? I always wish that I could embrace those sick days and appreciate that I CAN take time off of life to recharge, but no, I always end up hating it.
(By the way, I highly recommend the Ken Burns Vietnam doc. And I dare you to complete it in three days. Ten episodes, each about 1.5 hours long. Hooray for summer colds!)
On to the updates:
Fitness
Sun 7/29 – Taught RPM
Mon 7/30 – Taught RPM
Tues 7/31 – Weights (lower body)
Wed 8/1 – Rest
Thurs 8/2 – Body Pump
Fri 8/3 – Rest
Sat 8/5 – Rest
As you can see, my week started off normally. I taught my usual RPM classes and accomplished two strength training sessions. On Tuesday I focused on legs with lots of squats and lunges. On Thursday I took a BodyPump class at my gym. BodyPump was one of my first group fitness loves. It’s a full body strength training program created by Les Mills, the same company that creates RPM the indoor cycling program I teach.
When I first discovered group fitness, I religiously took BodyPump classes about twice a week for at least two years. That’s love, I’d say. These days I try to get in at least one BodyPump class a week to keep up with the new music and moves. However, since the beginning of this year, I haven’t made it to many BodyPump classes. I’ve really focused on lifting on my own. I wanted to challenge myself in new ways. I wanted to lift heavy weights and workout on my own schedule, not just the gym’s class schedule. It’s been a fun journey, but it’s always nice to return to something that feels like “home”.
The rest of the week was full of rest. I became a disgusting sneeze factory and any type of activity beyond changing the channels on my tv was out of the question. Oh well, life happens.
Gear
Only one real update here. I happened to have purchased a pair of long underwear on Amazon which arrived on Thursday, along with my cold. These were super cheap and super comfy. I will for sure bring these on my trek either to wear during the hike under pants, or maybe to wear at night for sleeping. Last weekend, I just wore them as leggings around the house. They are thicker than some long undies and did not stretch out weirdly, even after two consecutive days of wearing. I highly recommend!
Emotions/Thoughts
I think I’m in denial that this is actually happening. As of today, we are just 37 days away from the trip! I just don’t believe it’s real.
I have only a few keys things to check off my ‘to do’ list, but over all I’m squared away with most of what I need. My main focus this week is getting healthy again! I still have some lingering sinus pressure and I’m nervous it will expand into something else. I’m chugging fluids and getting lots of sleep, so fingers crossed I’ll be back to 100% in no time.
Sorry for the short update, but if you’ve read along for this long – thank you!! Next week’s update should be a bit more exciting and the trip will be here in no time!
Go back in time and check out some older updates here! Or check out something I wrote that is not related to Everest here!
Stay healthy, my friends!!
I love reading about people’s life updates! Have fun on your trip!!
xx
